Morning Devotions: Ephesians 4:17 — 5:5

The question of the day is not, who were you and how did you get that way. Because you were a zombie before you knew Messiah. One of the walking dead along the broadway that leads to the ultimate death that you were headed for. (Matthew 7:13-14) Who you were is not who you are.

Ephesians 4:21-24  if indeed you have heard Him (Y’shua/Jesus) and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus (John 4:16), that, in reference to your former manner of life (Eph 2:1-10), you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit,  and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

In the Green House; more tomatoes. They look pretty good. So does the basil growing at the base of the tomatoes.

Today’s devotion is not about you, it is about us. We are one body.

John 13:34-35 “A new commandment I (Y’shua/Jesus) give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.  By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Rom 12:4-5 For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function,  so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.
1 Cor 12:14, 27 For the body is not one member, but many. … Now you are Christ’s body, and individually members of it.

True to its reputation, Brandywine is the most amazing tomato ever. The plants we grew outside did not do well but these greenhouse tomatoes are fantastic.

We who believe are one and we MUST love each other, even if you do not like The Way that someone else lives at any given moment, we are one. We are not one with unbelievers, but with others who believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died for our sin, rose from the dead by the power of the Father and gave us His own Spirit to live through us the life that Jesus  lived. Therefore, that person who offends you in some way is the person you are to love as if you are loving yourself. You were once that person to Jesus, but he did not shun you. He died for you, he gave up himself for you. Even more, he rose from the dead for you, he has gone to prepare a place in eternity for you, He sent his own Holy Spirit to live in you, to give you a direct line of communication to himself, and one day soon, he is coming back for you. And you are a part of “us.” You and I are one in Jesus. This is why Paul teaches us to lay aside who we were (the old self) and embrace who we are (the body of Messiah).

Persimmon Tomatoes. As good as Brandywines are, Persimmon are better. Their yellow orange color is what makes them a little less popular then red Brandywines.

Should we not get angry when someone else sins? Paul tells us that we can get angry about sin but we must not sin ourselves! (Ephesians 4:26). He also warns us not to hang on to our anger, do not let the sun set and find you still in anger.

Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. Eph 4:32

Just as the Almighty in the Messiah has forgiven you, forgive each other. Speak truth to each other, but do not forget to live in truth. Measure your life by the life written in the Word of God. Isaiah 53
