Morning Devotions: Isaiah 26:1-9

Take a minute to pray and read Isaiah 26: 1-9 and find out what God has to say to you instead of just what He said to me.

Gala Apples. I thought these were boring when I only had store bought fruit. But these apples that we grow at The Toy Box are wonderful!. We can hardly get enough. Even in a drought year, the Back to Eden garden produces huge, juicy apples.

The Land of Oz Have you ever heard of the old movie, The Wizard of Oz? It is the story of a battle between wicked forces and a beautiful place of sunshine, color and safety. In today’s passage, Isaiah tells of a day (on that day) when conflict will be over, the world that we know will have been laid waist and the city spoken of in yesterday’s Revelation passage (chapter 22) is manifest!

That city, the New Jerusalem, is the home of those who delight in the Torah (the Law) of the LORD, manifest as Y’shua–Jesus! It is the goal of living your life according to The Way of righteousness (From this week’s Psalm 1)

Isaiah tells us that it is a strong city. The word translated “strong” is the Hebrew word OZ. It means strength or power, a place of refuge for those who trust in the Almighty.

Canned pears (Chris bought them, we do not grow enough pears to can yet) and Challah bread. Getting ready for winter and Sabbath.

Canned pears (Chris bought them, we do not grow enough pears to can yet) and Challah bread. Getting ready for winter and Sabbath.

What does it mean to trust? The Hebrew word is BATACH. We looked at this word last year in our study of the Proverbs 31 woman. (31:11) It means a place to run for refuge. Just as a husband’s heart trusts (goes quickly for refuge) so we keep our hearts at peace because we trust in the Almighty!

Must we wait until Jesus returns for this refuge? Absolutely not! The reason Psalm 1 taught us to meditate on the Word and to walk (live) in THE WAY of the righteous, the reason that yesterdays passage in The Revelation encouraged us to heed (listen with an intention to obey) is because we live by faith! Faith is defined for us in Hebrews 11:1

Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

The last of the summer Tomatoes at The Toy Box. Most of the plants have already been pulled out and fall crops have been seeded in their place. But these Sweetie cherry tomatoes are still giving up a few sweet fruit to go with those winter salad greens that are just starting to come on strong.

This city of OZ, described in the Revelation, is our destination. We make our pilgrimage to the New Jerusalum by walking (living) The Way of Righteousness. Verse 8 of Isaiah 26 says, …”we have waited for thee. This was a very difficult Hebrew passage to translate. The word for “waited” (KAW-VAW) means to live for what we hope in. Not the same as “hoping” I’ll get a Ferrari for my next birthday…. Cause that ain’t gonna happen. This hope is more like keeping yourself pure for the person you will marry someday. It is living your life in a way that is difficult but worth it because of the joy that IS coming. Paul talked about this hope in Romans 8:24-25.

For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

Live for the city of OZ. Be like Abraham, the father of our faith… for he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is the Almighty Hebrews 11:10 This is the city that Jesus has gone to prepare for you. He return to bring you there! John 14:3
