The Psalm of the week was Psalm 1
He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither, and whatever he does shall prosper. Psalm 1:3
Open up your bible and read Revelation 22:1-9 before starting this devotion.
There is so much I want to teach you from this passage, but a morning devotion is meant to be brief. Psalm 1:3 tells us the righteous person delights in the Word of the Almighty. We have been warned that there are people who can get us off course, the ungodly, sinners and the scornful. It can be hard work staying on THE WAY of righteous, Jesus said that The Way is difficult. Sometimes people wonder if it is worth it.
The trees planted by the river of water (literally living water, which Jesus said would flow from believers, John 7:38-39) are mentioned in the last great chapter of the Bible, Revelation 22. John said that the river is the Holy Spirit, now he tells us in the Revelation that this river flows from the throne of God and the Lamb.
Is being careful about how you live (THE WAY) important? People make fun, they say cruel things, and sometimes I wonder why. Ephesians 6:12, the passage about putting on the full armor of God, reminds us that we are at war with dark spirits who serve the Fallen One (satan). These dark spirits do not want to lose the souls of people who do not know the life and freedom we have in the Messiah. It is so important to forgive what people do to us, and, to believe what Jesus tells us is true. I am convinced that when we see the New Jerusalem, where Jesus has his throne, when we hear him say, “Well done thou good and faithful servant, enter into the JOY…” then we will know that it was a good choice to walk The Way, keeping our eyes on Jesus, who for the Joy set before Him, endured the cross, despising the shame…. For you! Hebrews 12:2
