for the LORD knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish. Psalm 1:6 RSV
Who do you want to be like when you grow up?
We ask our children that question. Children see people and want to be like them. Be that person!
Who does God want us to BE when we grow up? I think he wants us to be who we are, not who someone else is. God alone wants us to walk (live) as the person he created us to be. A person who is part of a community of believers. Someone who has relevance in the assembly because they are doing what they were created to do.
Paul compared each of us to body parts. The eyes cannot do what the hands were created to do. The mouth cannot accomplish what the ears can. Elbows direct the hands and arms, not the feet. 1 Corinthians 12: 14-26
The one and only way to make something of your life (to be fruitful) is to spend time in the Torah of God. The rest of Scripture springs from Torah. Scoffers will sit with you and tear the word apart, the wicked will advise you on how to get around the Torah, sinners will try to show you another way to live your life, but none of them will guide you to eternal life like Torah (the law) does. (Galatians 3: 19-29)
At the critical moment, at the end of time when we must all stand before the judgement seat of Messiah, when the life lessons of the wicked are blown away like dust in the wind by the Spirit of God, when sinners who wanted an easier way find out that their path did not bring them to eternal life (in the congregation of the righteous) and the words of scoffers do not stand up to judgement, what will be left? The fruit of lives who lived by the Word of God. God knows The Way, he is the only one who can brings us safely down the path.
